Secret to Aloe

October 05, 2017

It is no secret that White and Elm is dedicated to green, honest beauty. When crafting our products, we spend extra time researching the benefits of our natural ingredients in order to determine whether it is the best ingredient for the product’s intended use. We take great care in creating our products as they are a direct reflection of the passion, expertise, and standards of White and Elm. Many of our ingredients contain different natural and essential oils that help sustain and nourish the skin in many different ways but our most used ingredient is not an oil, but rather aloe vera.

Aloe vera is one of about 400 different Aloes, all of which are part of the Lily family. Aloe vera is considered a succulent plant because of its ability to hold large quantities of water that are translated in the thick gel-like substance within the leaves. This gel-like substance is very popular when it comes to treating sunburns; however, it has many other properties that make aloe vera one of the best ingredients to use for skincare products.

Aging is an inevitable process of life and there are numerous ways that people try to obtain youthful looking skin. Botox and fillers are among the most mainstream procedures, but these are not natural remedies and require hundreds of dollars and needles (eek!). As our skin ages, it tends to become drier and lose its elasticity, making it more susceptible to fine lines and wrinkles. Aloe’s high water content quenches the skin because it is able to penetrate deeply below the surface. This is able to give moisture to lower levels of the skin and nourishes natural enzymes and amino acids, ultimately improving elasticity and making the skin smoother and more supple. The vitamins in aloe vera (including A, C, and E) carry antioxidants and neutralize free radicals. Free radicals, such as smog, dust, and cigarette smoke, cause damage to our skin and speed up the aging process. All of these components of aloe aid in producing young looking, beautiful skin. So instead of working up the courage to have needles poked into your face, use aloe vera for a less invasive, natural defense against aging.

Another great use of aloe vera is to improve acne and reduce the appearance of blemishes. Ingredients found in aloe vera such as salicylic acids have natural antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties with help reduce acne by treating your breakouts deep below the skin. By using an aloe-based product as part of your everyday skincare routine, your skin is constantly receiving salicylic acid so it is less likely that you will experience recurring harsh breakouts. Large amounts of enzymes, gibberellin, and amino acids are in aloe vera. All three ingredients are known to stimulate the growth of new cells and prevent scarring. The enzymes remove dead skin cells while the hormone, gibberellin, regenerates the cells and the amino acids help construct proteins and muscle tissue.

Here at White and Elm, our mission is to help you feel beautiful and confident in your own skin. By carefully selecting our ingredients, we ensure that your skincare routine is helping your skin to sustain and nourish itself. Aloe vera has been one of our favorite ingredients to work with due to its versatility and ability to produce so much good for our skin. Our three most popular aloe vera based products are our Balancing Facial Toner, Everyday SPF 15, and Everyday Moisturizer all contain aloe vera. Our toner has been consciously crafted to sooth the skin and add a splash of hydration after cleansing. It tightens pores and creates a fresher, cleaner appearance for the skin. Both the Everyday SPF and Everyday Moisturizer contain antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and amino acids that work wonders for maintaining the youthfulness of the skin because it is derived mostly from aloe vera.
