New Year - New You - New Skin

January 10, 2017

Hello Beautiful and Happy New Year!

new year new skin new youI hope that you had a wonderful holiday season with your family and friends!  January marks the beginning of a new year – a fresh start, the beginning of a new chapter, however you look at it. Most of us, start setting goals that we would like to achieve, or continue to improve on. When making your resolutions for 2017, was working out or eating healthier at the top of your list? They are usually on the top of mine as well. For those of us that want to be healthier, we start working out more, eating better, and we try taking care of our overall mental and physical health. The main objective of these goals is to look and feel our best, right? Proper skin care is also a goal for many. Skin care not only helps the look of your skin, it improves your self-esteem, it improves your overall confidence level, and it sets you up for healthy skin and a healthy skin care routine, for years to come! Having and keeping healthy skin was a goal I set for myself many years ago. It was a goal that lead me to my profession, believe it or not and it’s also a goal that I continue to work on and improve on each year.

I struggled with skin issues from an early age. My first break out, I can remember was in elementary school. I ran home after school and went straight to the bathroom to wash my face and dig through my mother’s cosmetic bag to find something to try to cover up my new unwanted friend. The struggle continued through middle school and high school.  When I started college, I remember sitting in a class thinking, what am I most interested in? What can I see myself pursuing and staying interested in for years to come? Searching for the answer to the ever so popular question… what do you want to be when you grow up? Skin care and nutrition is what came to my mind. I listened to my inner voice, and graduated from an advanced esthetics program that following Spring. I have been a Licensed Esthetician for over 15 years now.

Through the years, I have worked with several different product lines. Some I loved and some that were just ok. With each new product line, I found myself paying close attention to and reading the ingredient labels. I can assume, if you are reading this blog, you most likely also read labels. For me, it wasn’t just about reading the ingredient list, it was about understanding and caring about what I was reading. I wanted to know exactly what I was using on myself, as well as on my clients, friends and family. I found myself drawn to, and my skin much happier when using clean, natural, and safe products.

My career within the Natural Industry started five years ago. I continue to be attracted and drawn to natural, conscious, and effective skin care. By the way, the key word in that last sentence is effective.  Sure, you could be using a natural or organic product on your skin, that’s fantastic, but is it effective? Have you found that it is doing what it says it will do? One of the main reasons that I was so attracted and excited to not just be using but to be a part of White & Elm, was because of how clean and smart the formulations are. As I mentioned earlier, I’m a bit of an ingredient snob. I don’t see it as a bad thing. I know what I like and what is good for me and for my skin. When I first spoke with Sherelle, I said, “I applaud you on your ingredient selection!” All the products are made with 10 ingredients or less. She sources only the highest quality plant based ingredients. Most ingredients are organic and all are natural. Another big one for me was that, most of the products were not water based. This reason might seem confusing to some, but don’t fret. I will discuss why this is so important in our next blog this week, which will be on oil cleansing. So please hang tight!

With all that being said, if healthy skin and a healthier you were on your resolutions list for 2017, we welcome you to come check out and continue to follow White & Elm. We absolutely want women to feel beautiful in their skin. Not just because of how others will treat them. We want you to feel your deepest beauty because it allows you to share your true self with others. That's the kind of beauty we're after. Our products aren't intended to be armor you must don before battle, they enhance the gorgeousness of the real you! They heal and repair, they sustain and nourish, they teach you to heed your own body's messages. Getting to that place is empowering. It is confident. And it is beautiful.

We thank you for your support and may 2017 be your skin's best year yet!

xo~

The Key to Making Healthy Skincare Rituals
The Key to Making Healthy Skincare Rituals

Creating a daily skincare ritual for yourself gives you an opportunity to experience the moment. By committing to a ritual we not only see the immediate benefit for our skin, but we also begin to see patterns that evolve. Much like in yoga when your asana feels different from day-to-day. Only when you begin to see patterns can you begin to understand your skin.

While you may be cleansing, moisturizing, and applying sunscreen, daily. If you’re not exfoliating, your skin isn’t as healthy as it could be. It is very important to exfoliate your face and body all year round. But after the winter, sloughing away all that dead skin seems even more necessary.
