Staying Hydrated is Easier Than you Might Think!

by Emily Doyle July 23, 2015

We’ve all heard it over and over: drink at least eight cups of water a day!

Sounds easy enough right? Well, I don’t know about you, but I know I certainly don’t think about my water intake regularly throughout the day and as a result those eight cups quickly become a sip here and there.

It’s SO important to stay hydrated though! Every cell in our bodies, from those that make up our heart to those in our skin, depends heavily on water in order to function properly. In other words, more water = better overall health.

So, the question remains: how can we make staying hydrated easier?

Here’s a few tips and tricks that can help!

1) Eat your water!

So many yummy fruits and vegetables have high water content that can keep you hydrated without having to chug bottles of water. Watermelon, cucumbers, celery and tomatoes are great examples of foods that are made up of over 90% water. Eat these foods raw and you’ll be staying hydrated without even thinking about it!

2) Buy or make your own “motivation bottle”.

There are a multitude of water bottles on the market that are intended to keep you on a water-drinking regime throughout you day. For example, check out these Motivational Bottles. If you don’t want to buy another water bottle, you can easily make your own! Just take an old water bottle and a Sharpie and mark the bottle with five lines, labeling them with times starting at 8 am and going through to 6 pm. Use the Motivational Bottles as a guideline if you want!

3) Infuse water with fruit.

I know I have days where I’d much rather drink something yummy, flavored, and fruity than bland old water. Here’s an easy fix! Simply put any fruit, berries, citrus, anything, into cold water. Give it some time for the fruit to “infuse” into your water and viola! You have a tasty AND healthy alternative to sugary drinks.

So drink up! You’ll really see the difference proper hydration can make!

While you may be cleansing, moisturizing, and applying sunscreen, daily. If you’re not exfoliating, your skin isn’t as healthy as it could be. It is very important to exfoliate your face and body all year round. But after the winter, sloughing away all that dead skin seems even more necessary.

For sure you need to be wearing a daily moisturizer with a minimum of an SPF 15.  You also need to look for sunscreens that are labeled Broad Spectrum because this means they have passed specific laboratory testing that shows they protect against both UVA and UVB rays.  If you plan to be in direct sun for more than a few hours, please reapply your sunscreen.  Also, if you are planning on swimming or sweating heavily opt for a Water-Proof formula as well.  It's best to avoid chemical sunscreens altogether because let's face it; we don't want the chemicals we put on our skin to end up in our blood stream. Also, because we don't yet know the impact that nanoparticles will have on our health, it's best to use mineral sunscreens that specifically use non-nano minerals.
