The Key to Making Healthy Skincare Rituals

The Key to Making Healthy Skincare Rituals

by Devon Ost May 07, 2017

Creating a daily skincare ritual for yourself gives you an opportunity to experience the moment. By committing to a ritual we not only see the immediate benefit for our skin, but we also begin to see patterns that evolve. Much like in yoga when your asana feels different from day-to-day. Only when you begin to see patterns can you begin to understand your skin.

Exfoliation: What is it and Why is it important?

Exfoliation: What is it and Why is it important?

by Devon Ost March 28, 2017

While you may be cleansing, moisturizing, and applying sunscreen, daily. If you’re not exfoliating, your skin isn’t as healthy as it could be. It is very important to exfoliate your face and body all year round. But after the winter, sloughing away all that dead skin seems even more necessary.

How to Find The Perfect SPF: Understanding Sun Protection Factor 101

How to Find The Perfect SPF: Understanding Sun Protection Factor 101

by Devon Ost February 22, 2017

For sure you need to be wearing a daily moisturizer with a minimum of an SPF 15.  You also need to look for sunscreens that are labeled Broad Spectrum because this means they have passed specific laboratory testing that shows they protect against both UVA and UVB rays.  If you plan to be in direct sun for more than a few hours, please reapply your sunscreen.  Also, if you are planning on swimming or sweating heavily opt for a Water-Proof formula as well.  It's best to avoid chemical sunscreens altogether because let's face it; we don't want the chemicals we put on our skin to end up in our blood stream. Also, because we don't yet know the impact that nanoparticles will have on our health, it's best to use mineral sunscreens that specifically use non-nano minerals.

The Oil Cleansing Method with White and Elm

The Oil Cleansing Method with White and Elm

by Devon Ost January 11, 2017

Oil cleansing, I get it, it sounds a little strange, odd, dirty even? Believe me, if someone would have recommended this to me, say 15 years ago, I would have thought it was the craziest thing that I had ever heard. But, I am going to share with you a mind blowing little fact, that changed my mind on skin care products and ingredients forever. It is important that you keep in mind-- oil dissolves oil. Water doesn’t dissolve oil. Think about it! Our skin naturally lubricates itself with oil. Oil, alone, will not bring you blemishes! Our skin reflects what is going on inside our bodies. Hormones play a huge role in our skin. Along with, stress, sleeping habits, and our diets. Our skin is typically trying to tell us something. It’s time that we listen! Learning to work with your skin, not against it, will save you time and money.
